Winning Ways in Week 1

Apperley got the cricket season off to a flyer with two wins on a balmy Easter weekend.

The first friendly

On Saturday we posted 271-3 in 45 overs against Cheltenham before bowling them out for 136 in 32 overs to record a 135 run victory. Adie Mays (43) and Matt Long (73) set up a solid platform allowing Hugh Leeke (48*) and Sam Fitzmaurice (47*) to score quick runs towards the end of the innings. James Nicol was the pick of the bowlers, ripping through the top order to take 4-20 from 6 overs, while debutant Tom Radcliffe showed he is going to be a handy addition with a tight spell from the other end.

The second friendly

Sunday saw a similar outcome with Apperley posting 239 all out in their 40 overs before they bowled Poulton out for 136 in the 37th over. Andy O’Conner top scored with an unbeaten 63 from 54 balls and was backed up by Jimmer Thomas’ lightning quick 55 from 25 balls. The wickets were shared between six of our bowlers with two each for Tom Hayward, Neil Rayer and debutant Jeremy Yearsley – another who looks set to be a good addition to the squad.

Watch while you’re away

As well as getting our season underway with a comic stumble as he set off for a run off the first ball of the season, opening batter and tech wizard Adie managed to get the cameras set up so there will now be a live stream of our matches throughout this season. To watch simply visit this website and click on the Live Stream link at the top of the page. If a game is in play the feed will automatically be there for you to view if you’re unable to be at the ground in person.

Training

Now that the season is officially underway adult nets will resume this Thursday at 5.30pm and will continue at the same time each week throughout the season. Meanwhile, the youth outdoor nets begin this Friday evening – 6pm for those playing age groups and 5.30pm for the younger ones. See you at the club very soon!
