Welcome to the 2022 season – Chairman’s Message
May I welcome you all to Apperley cricket club for the 2022 season. We are delighted to announce that Ben Major will be our new Club President. Ben, Guy van der Gucht’s son in law, lives with Laura at Apperley Court. In memory of Guy, an oak tree, with commemorative plaque, has been planted close to the nets area.
We again have been very busy over the last few months installing new Astro turf pathways, railings and steps and improvements to our patio area. Many thanks must go to all the people who have helped with these projects over the winter months. You will also see that we have built a purpose built scorers’ hut and umpires’ changing room. Many thanks must go to the Strickland Trust who very kindly helped fund this project and also County Builders for their continued support to the club. Many thanks to a band of dedicated helpers who gave up their time to help build and complete this fantastic new facility in time for the start of the 2022 season.
We have a new main club sponsor this year, Fibre Networking Solutions and I would like to thank Alan Lewis for his support for Apperley Cricket Club. Also many thanks to all of our other sponsors old and new for their generosity in sponsoring the youth teams, Club and the fixture book. This year we will be able to field 9 youth teams, a first and second eleven adults teams, along with a midweek T20 and Sunday team, which shows how the club has grown over the last few years, which bodes very well for cricket into the future.
The hire of the pavilion for functions has been very successful as has the new fortnightly cricket club café which was launched this year, and many thanks to the Ladies who run this venture every fortnight. Keep an eye on the club notice board in the pavilion and on this, our new website for any new events taking place.
Let us look forward to a great season of cricket, and I hope to see you for a drink at the bar.
Best Wishes
Anthony Wilkes, ACC Chairman
